  • SEED WARNING: The link below is to a list of seed dealers that buy from Seminis, a company owned by Monsanto. Monsanto and Seminis are in the business of genetically engineering seeds. Genetic engineering involves splicing of genes from dissimilar plants, bacteria, or other types of cells into the plant for production. This results in resistance to some diseases and also allows the use of pesticides, such as Roundup (glyphosate, one of the most toxic pesticides available and known to cause reproductive damage, damage to the liver and kidneys, and potentially carcinogenic), to be used on food crops so that weeds are killed, but the food crop is not. Monsanto sells many products to be used together, such as these resistant strains and it's products such as Roundup, so they make profits from both products. Monsanto has sued and won many cases against small farms who practice open pollination and collect seeds (such as canola and corn). Genes "owned" by Monsanto have been found in the plants growing on nearby farms that were pollinated by insects or by the wind. Any farmer growing crops that contain the patented gene without purchasing products from Monsanto (or Seminis) are violating the patent. Pollution of gene pools is taking over many areas of the world, resulting in the loss of many heirloom varieties and unknown hazards to people. http://us.seminis.com/products/hg_dealer.asp
